Network in London every month
Regular Meet with Drinks events are run across London every month. They give members the opportunity to meet other professional marketers in a relaxed setting, where you can network freely, or just discuss the latest developments in the industry.
Events are mainly run in Central London, so if you work or live in London, there will be a warm and friendly welcome at a Meet with Drinks event.

Check out and join the Linked in group which supports the Meet with Drinks events in the Greater London Region. The group’s called CIM – Network for London Marketers. By joining the group you’ll be able to keep in touch and network with the people you’ve met at the events to discuss the latest developments in the industry.
New to networking? Here’s a few tips to get you started
Need to boost your confidence?
Most people feel the same way. Sometimes, shy people focus on themselves and believe that everyone else is doing the same. They’re not. So look around and imagine that everyone is really thinking about themselves. Get a drink or some food and just relax. Ask people for advice on a sticky situation in your job – people love to help, and you may just find a mentor you can trust.
You already know everything about yourself…
Don’t make the mistake of talking about yourself and what you do. Ask open questions, ones that people can answer at length. For example, “what’s your involvement in marketing?” is the sort of question that gives people a chance to answer in a bit of detail. Or try something like “How did you hear about meet with drinks?” Or “What do you think of The Institute’s events?” Try to get people to talk about themselves and share their stories or insights. Make them the centre of attention and practice describing yourself in 30 seconds.
Variety. It’s more than just a spice
Arrive early to meet the event organisers. They’ll help you mingle. Start off conversations with a few people and build your confidence. Don’t stay with one person all evening – move on after ten minutes. Let them down gently with a line like “It’s been great meeting you, but I better pretend I’m interested in everyone else as well.” Laugh and make friends.
Listen before you leap
Look at the different groups around you. Pick one that looks right to you and get a feel for their conversation. Use your body language to indicate you’re listening and ask questions when the moment presents itself. Join in with comments when you’re ready.
